Naming a real star through the International Star Registry in honour of a loved one is a distinctive gift and the ideal present for the person who means the world to you.
Since 1979, over two million stars have been named worldwide to celebrate and commemorate special occasions, honour individuals and reward excellence.

How do you name a star?
You nominate the constellation, the date of registration, and, most importantly, the name you are giving to the star.

The constellations are the groups of stars forming a distinctive pattern as seen from Earth. There are 88 constellations. Please note only the Latin name appears on the chart and certificate.
To name a star that is above Australia all year round, select a constellation in the Southern Hemisphere (e.g. Crux/The Southern Cross).
Alternatively, you can nominate to have a star named from one of the 12 Zodiac (star sign) constellations. These are ONLY VISIBLE FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS from Australia. For the other half of the year the whole constellation moves to the Northern Hemisphere.

The date of registration does not have to be today's date. It can be any date from January 2016 onward that would contribute to the meaning of the star naming.

The star name is the most important part. You can use up to 45 characters. Most star names are the name of the person the gift is for. It can, however, be anything from a nickname to the full name and birthdate. Or, the star name could consist of the names of a couple and even include a message. Many choose a name that is of special significance to the giver and receiver alone. Because you know the recipient best, your choice will certainly make that person feel like a star.

What do you receive?
The star name, the date of registration, the constellation and coordinates of the star are recorded on a 12x16" parchment certificate of record.
A large astronomical chart (12x16") pinpoints the location. The star is clearly plotted and circled in red, with the constellation formation highlighted in yellow. The name of the star, the date of registration and all other data relevant to the star, including its brightness, are printed on the chart.
An explanatory letter and a booklet on astronomy with a fold out pictorial constellation chart for orientation purposes complete the beautifully presented gift package.

Delivery
The gift package will be sent within 2 business days from Sydney with Australia Post.
Delivery then takes 1-10 business days depending on the postcode.
Australia Post will email and/or SMS you the tracking information within 1 business day and on the morning of delivery.
Please note the parcel is an A3 size flat box. Once the parcel is sent Australia Post will provide you with a Safe Drop option. You can choose to have the parcel to be left in a safe dry place without a signature. This is at your own risk and you accept full responsibility for any loss or damage if you elect to use Safe Drop during the delivery process.

*Please note the star you are naming is not visible to the naked eye. You need a 150mm (6") telescope to see it. Only about 3000 stars are visible to the naked eye and these stars have never been available for naming because they already have scientific and historical names. Naming a star through the International Star Registry is not recognised by the scientific community. The star's name appears in the International Star Registry records only. The stars thus named are not owned, nor is their scientific identification altered.
